Excerpts: Improvisation Session

This week I've released a selection of pieces from a jam session that I held in my studio last June. Friends Will Farina and Jon Monteverde joined me with some of their gear and we set up and started playing.

I'm always up for improvisation and really enjoy what happens when there are no plans and no expectations. It helps to be familiar with the work of your collaborators, of course, but I don't think it's necessary. I participated in a group songwriting event over the summer last year with four strangers and it was just as enjoyable.

Over the course of a few hours, Will, Jon and I traded off on a variety of instruments and ended up with a handful of recordings that feel cohesive enough for general listening. If you'd like to take a listen yourself, you can do so right here.
